PORTLAND, Ore. – Over the last two years Portland has lost a lot of artists due to increasing rents but that hasn’t stopped the city from being a haven for artists since many local businesses here also art great public spaces for artists to hang their work since it’s not always easy for new artists to get their work into galleries.

Art in Public Spaces

Oranj Studio

Location – 0726 SW Gaines St, Portland, OR 97239

Open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Oranj Studio is one of the most unique hair salons in Portland Oregon because their salon is also a gallery that proudly shows the work of many local artists.

Oranj Studio has had many shows here over the years because the space has plenty of high ceilings and long walls and they while they are doing hair throughout the day the owners frequently welcome visitors to the gallery who come to view the artwork.

Passages Bookshop

Location – 1223 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., Portland

Passages Bookshop is one of the few remaining independent booksellers in the United States because thanks to the Internet most bookshops have gone out of business over the last 15 years since consumers can easily buy their books online.

What’s great about Passages Bookshop is that besides having excellent rare books, they also have great art exhibits throughout the year including a recent exhibition which featured floor-to-ceiling poetry written by Jim Dine.

Art and literature go hand and hand here and what’s different about Passages Bookshop when compared to other businesses in the area that feature artwork is that owner David Abel is more willing to give unknown artists a chance here because he would rather see unique artwork in his shop that’s also unknown to the general public at the same time.

This Portland Oregon bookstore is open 10:00 am to 6:00 pm from Tuesday through Friday and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. learn more about them by clicking here: passagesbookshop.com
