Sally Struthers – All in The Family Actress, from Portland Oregon

Sally Struthers

By PDX People

Born in 1947, Sally Struthers remains one of the most well-known actresses from Portland Oregon thanks to her work on the iconic 1970’s television show All in the Family and her recurring role on the Gilmore Girls.

Sally grew up in Portland and went to Grant High School before moving to Los Angeles in the late 1960’s to start her career and her first starring role in Five Easy Pieces (1970) with Jack Nicholson, before starring in All in the Family (1971-1979), the role that would eventually make her a household name.

Long Career

During her 46 years in Hollywood, Sally Struthers has continued to remain a popular, and in demand actress for film and television projects while other actresses from her generation have since faded from the spotlight.

Over the years, when she’s not been acting in front of the camera, she can be found behind the camera lending her voice to a variety of film and television projects including shows like Dinosaurs, American Dad, TaleSpin and South Park.

Activism

Besides her film, television, and theater work, Mrs. Struthers has also stayed busy as an activist with organizations like ChildFund and Save the Children.

Gilmore Girls

At the age of 69, Mrs. Struthers doesn’t show any signs of slowing down and thanks to the revival of the Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

Struthers co-starred as Babette Dell on the Gilmore Girls from 2000-2007 and thanks to it’s continued popularity online and in re-runs, Gilmore Girls was brought back in the form of 4 movies (winter, springs, summer and fall) which caught fans up with the life of Rory, Lorelai and the lives of other residents from the fictional town of Stars Hollow.

The Gilmore Girls revival was a huge success and thanks to a cliff hanger ending it’s likely that we may see more Gilmore Girls movies with Sally Struther’s Babette, Rory,  and other characters from Stars Hollow in the years to come.
