Rose McGowan – Actress and Activist

PORTLAND, Ore. – Born in Tuscany Italy in 1973, Rose McGowan spent her early years traveling with her parents and living in communes throughout Europe during the 1970’s since her father was an artist and her mother was a writer.
During this time she also worked as a child model for many artists and magazines throughout Europe before her parents moved back to the Portland area in the early 1980’s.
She told The Advocate in a new interview, she left home a few years after that.
“At 13, when I was a runaway, I was taken in by the most amazing drag queens in Portland, Ore,” McGowan says. “We didn’t always know where our next meal was coming from, but there was so much camaraderie and love. Not to mention, those girls could paint a face, and I learned how because of them.”
Following her parent’s divorce she would split her time between Washington and Portland.
Film Career
By the mid 1990’s Rose McGowan was acting in a variety of indie films before moving to Los Angeles where she was quickly offered a role in her breakout film, Jawbreaker.
After starring in Jawbreaker she would star in a variety of iconic 1990’s films (Scream), but it was her work on the television show Charmed (2001-2006), which she co-starred with Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano, that she’s best known for.
Following Charmed, McGowan quickly returned to independent films when she starred in the Robert Rodriguez film project Grindhouse, since then she’s continued to stay busy acting, writing and directing in a variety of independent film and television projects.
Marilyn Manson
Rose McGowan is also best known for her relationship with unconventional rocker Marilyn Manson. During their relationship, she contributed vocals to some of his albums and even considered recording an album herself since she has a voice that’s a perfect fit for classic hits and soulful tunes.
Besides her acting career, Rose McGowan has also been an advocate for LGBT and animal rights causes across the United States, including animal shelters that rescue Boston Terriers since she also has two Boston Terriers herself.
