PORTLAND, Ore. – With the temperatures dipping into the 20’s and 30’s this week, PDX People may see some of the coldest temperatures that we’ve seen in Portland in years but thankfully you can still keep your home warm during this winter by following these simple tips.

Tip #1 – Leave Your Curtains Open during the Day

Leaving the curtains in your home open during the day will let the sun warm your home up naturally and also keep moisture from accumulating on your windows.

If your windows are poorly insulated you should consider using a duck window kit to insulate them for the winter months.

Tip #2 – Use Zone Heaters

Zone heaters are effective at heating individual rooms, or “zones”, in your home rather than you having to heat your entire house and pay for heating rooms in your home that may not be occupied.

Tip #3 – Invest In Area Rugs

Area rugs are an easy way to heat up any home during the winter months, especially if you have all wood floors in your home because heat loss can also occur when the heat escapes through floor boards.

Tip #4 – Reseal Your Doors

Another handy way to keep your home warm this winter is to reseal the doors in your home with new weather stripping and or door seals.

Tip #5 – Purchase Rubber Backed Curtains

Last of all, but most important, another handy way to keep your Portland Oregon home warm this winter is to purchase rubber backed curtains for your home because these curtains are another line of defense at stopping drafts from entering a home and they will stop warm air from leaving your house as well.
