There’s no denying that Portland is a great place for PDX People to be in the fall months because, the weather is cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and most people are in a happy mood because they are looking forward to the holidays, drinking their pumpkin lattes, and enjoying fall events.

In this article will break down some of the upcoming events, or things to do in Portland Oregon for PDX People this fall that you should add to your schedule.

Things to Do in Portland Oregon This Fall

Yes, it’s true, there are still tons of great things to do in Portland Oregon during the fall. you could kayak down the Willamette River while enjoying the downtown cityscape, take a hike in Forest Park, visit the gorge, or spend the day biking on Sauvié Island.

There’s always something cool to do in Portland during the fall but what’s especially awesome about the city is that there’s always regular events happening around town during the fall months including the following events which are a combination of all our favorite passions including beer, wine, good food, and fun:

Bavarian festival

September 28 – Oct. 1, 2017

Oregon’s Alpen fest celebrates Swiss and Bavarian culture with beer, bratwurst, polka bands, alphorns, Swiss yodeling, accordionists, and a craft fair near Wallowa Lake in NE Oregon.

Hops festival at Oaks Park

September 29 – 30, 2017

6 miles SE

Portland Fresh Hops Fest has been made with fresh hops for adults and root beer for kids (minors only OK on Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m.) at Oaks Amusement Park.

Haunted house: 13th Door

September 29 – Nov. 4, 2017

9 miles SW

The 13th Door Haunted House features “animated creatures and theatrical actors” at 3855 SW Murray Boulevard in Beaverton.

Oktoberfest

September 30, 2017 (2 to 10 p.m.)

Weird film festival

October 6 – 8, 2017

H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival screens films containing literary horror and weird tales similar to the stories of H.P. Lovecraft and offers panel discussions, author readings, gaming, and art at Hollywood Theatre.

Halloween ball

The Pacific Northwest Witches Ball promises an upscale evening of music, dance performances, a costume contest, hors-d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and vendors at Monarch Hotel and Conference Center in Clackamas for age 18+. Elegant costume required.

Rock the Boat is a costume dance party with DJ music, a cash bar, food for sale, and two hours of cruising the Willamette River, departing from Salmon Street Springs Fountain for age 21+.

Not-So-Scary Halloween features trick-or-treat bag decorating, a pumpkin smash, spooky stories, glow-in-the-dark painting, a costume dance party, and trick-or-treating at Portland Children’s Museum.

Portland Oregon Pumpkin Patches 

The Pumpkin Patch

About: Claiming the title of Portland’s Original Pumpkin Patch, this farm works hard to put on a great event every fall. They grow over 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables throughout the year on 800 acres of farmland, and they believe in sustainable farming. If all that wasn’t enough, they put on a an amazing harvest festival each pumpkin season.

Pumpkins: picking is advertised as being in October but check their availability online.

Things to do: Check out their big red animal barn, the Patio Cafe/Pumpkin Perk, Pumpkin Cottage Gift Shop, hayrides and hay pyramid, and the maize. All activities listed are free minus the cafe and coffee shop.

Tip: When driving to the patch, make sure you go the full two miles after looping under the bridge (Watch for mile marker #2 on the right side of the road). It is the second farm on the left.

Bushue’s Family Farm

About: Bushue’s bursts with pumpkins in the fall! In addition to picking your own gourd, you can also catch the last of the summer’s flowers and veggies at the produce market. Don’t miss the unique chance to make your own dirt babies, a little doll of mud and grass that helps kids learn how plants grow. Kids love to watch their babies’ hair grow in the windowsill!

Pumpkins: Pumpkins will be ripe for the picking in October, see pricing below.

Things to do: Tractor driven hay rides, dirt babies (a creative and fun way to learn about how plants grows), pig train rides, pumpkin bowling, farm animals to visit, a playground and Bushue’s own adventure park- tunnels and slides and hay bales to climb,

Pricing:
Pumpkins are sold at $.39 cents per pound, hayrides and pig train rides are $3 each. Lil’ Punkin’s Playground and the pumpkin bowling alley are $2 each and the dirt babies cost $2:50 each.

Tip: A great spot for school groups and birthday parties.
