If you’re a fan of the NBA, like we are, you will remember names like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Terrell Brandon because the two-time NBA All-Star was also one of them most well-known players to come from Portland Oregon.
About Terrell Brandon
Born and raised in Portland Oregon, Terrell Brandon went to Grant High School and in 1988 he was named Oregon High School player of the year after leading his team to the AAA high school basketball championship.
After graduating high school he went on to the University of Oregon where he excelled as a freshman and also set single game records for steals and single season run scoring average.
Instead of staying at the University of Oregon for all four years, Terrell Brandon became the first Portland player who chose to leave school early and start his NBA career.
During his 11 year career in the NBA, Brandon would play for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
By the mid-1990’s he was ranked by Sports Illustrated as the best point guard in the NBA and he had the distinction of becoming a two-time All-Star in 1996 and 1997.
Sadly, throughout his career, he was often plagued by injuries but he made his time in the NBA count and often used his fame to give back to communities across the United States by holding basketball camps for underprivileged youth and it was at one of those camps he met a young LeBron James.
Life after the NBA
Following his retirement from the NBA in 2002, Terrell Brandon was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2006; he’s also stayed active in the Portland business community thanks to his Terrell Brandon Barber Shop, real estate investing, and various other business ventures.
